February’s “What’s In Season” looks a lot like January’s– and that makes complete sense of course! Produce on the graphic are classified as winter produce, so not only will January and February look similar, but so will March, April, and some of May! There’s only one difference between January and February. Can you spot it?
Here are some of the benefits of eating produce that’s in-season:
Tastes Better – fruits have been allowed to naturally ripen
Higher Nutritional Benefit – fresher and contains higher levels of antioxidants
More Environmentally Friendly – reduces demand for out of season produce which supports our local Quebec farmers
It’s important to note that it’s not always possible to eat locally and seasonally, and that’s okay. It’s about making conscientious decisions when you’re able to. We’re all students, we get how expensive food is (and can we talk about Quebec’s insanely high tax rate?!). No judgement here
