Conferences

Since 2014, S.N.A.C. has hosted a conference on food safety, security, and sustainability to raise awareness among students at McGill University. We bring together the McGill and Montreal community to hear more from experts in food security and sustainable food systems in Montreal.

Safety, Security & Sustainability

Our first food sustainability conference featured both a volunteer fair and a speaker series. Organizations around Montreal including the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal, Santropol Roulant, and the NDG Depot Alimentaire spoke to students about how they can get involved. The conference ended with a speaker series where 3 speakers including Oliver de Volpi (Executive Chef, Operations and Sustainability), Paul Meldrum (Farm Manager, McGill Mac Campus, and Professor Hugo Melgar-Quinonez (Director for the Institute for Global Food Security) spoke about their projects to improve food security and sustainability.

Safety, Security & Sustainability

Our second annual conference featured McGill's challenges and opportunities in sustainable food systems. Four speakers engaged students including representatives from the McGill Farmer's Market, McGill's clinical and health promotuon dietitian, an expert on Agriculture Sustainability and Food Waste, and the Director of Development and Engagement at Food Secure Canada.

A Conference on Montreal's Urban Food System

Our 2017 conference focused on Montreal’s urban food system and its impacts on Montreal’s food security, community members, and the environment. Speakers included Professor Caroline Begg and representatives from the Concordia Greenhouse, The People’s Potato, Micro Habitat, and the NDG Food Depot. These speakers were stationed throughout the Montreal food system and provided unique insights into how their work strengthens the system and increases food security.
